Photographs by Liz Garza Williams and paintings by Kathy Sosa seek both to document and to celebrate the various ways that huipiles are enjoyed by women in the US, among them:
Self-described "Huipilistas" who collect and wear the garments on a daily basis, always in the traditional manner (that is to say, in the same way the garments are worn in the countries where they are made.)
Those who incorporate the huipil into their own wardrobe and combine it with articles of contemporary American fashion to create an individual style Those like fashion designer Veronica Prida who alter the traditional pieces into updated fashion collections for her US customers.
